Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information Balkan Lore ("we", "us") handles, why, and how. Balkan Lore is a small visual-history media project that publishes content about the history of the Balkans and Southeast Europe. It is operated by an individual; no separate legal entity has been established.
1. This website
- balkanlore.com is a static informational website. It has no user accounts, no sign-up forms, no comments and no advertising.
- We do not set cookies and we do not use analytics or tracking scripts on this website.
- The site is served through Cloudflare. As part of delivering and protecting the site, Cloudflare may process technical request data (such as IP address, browser type and request time) under its own privacy policy.
2. Our TikTok integration
Balkan Lore uses TikTok's official developer tools to publish Balkan Lore's own videos to the Balkan Lore TikTok account:
- TikTok Login Kit is used so the account owner can authorize our publishing tool to act on the Balkan Lore TikTok account.
- Basic account identification (scope
user.info.basic): we receive the account's open ID and basic profile information (such as display name and avatar), only to confirm which TikTok account a video will be sent to. - Draft video upload (scope
video.upload): we send finished Balkan Lore videos to the account's TikTok inbox as drafts. The account owner reviews, edits and posts them inside the TikTok app. - Content posting (TikTok Content Posting API): where enabled, videos are posted only after the account owner has explicitly confirmed each post, including its caption, privacy setting and AI-generated-content label.
We use this integration only for the Balkan Lore account and only to publish Balkan Lore's own content. We do not read, collect or store other TikTok users' personal data, messages, followers, comments or viewing activity.
3. What we store
- Access credentials. TikTok OAuth access and refresh tokens and our app credentials are stored in restricted, access-controlled files on our own server. They are never published, shared, committed to source control or written to logs.
- Publishing records. Our logs record technical publishing metadata: time, content identifier, the type of operation, the result, error codes, and TikTok's upload or post identifiers. Logs identify the account only by a hashed identifier. They never contain passwords, tokens or other secrets.
- Our own content. We store the videos, scripts, captions and research that Balkan Lore produces.
4. What we do not do
- We do not sell, rent or trade personal data.
- We do not collect more data than the publishing workflow needs.
- We do not use data received from TikTok for advertising, profiling or any purpose other than publishing Balkan Lore's own content.
5. Third-party services
Third-party services we rely on, including TikTok and Cloudflare, process data under their own terms and privacy policies. When you use TikTok, TikTok's own Privacy Policy applies.
6. Retention and removal
TikTok authorization tokens are kept only while the integration is in use and are deleted when access is revoked or no longer needed. The account owner can revoke our access at any time from the TikTok app's settings (Security and permissions / Manage app permissions).
7. Children
This website and our publishing tool are not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
8. Changes
We may update this policy as the project changes. The "Last updated" date above shows when it was last revised.
